Revolution Renaissance: Age of Aquarius
25/05/09 || Euthanatos
Mother of fuck, what a load of horse shit. Kill it! Timo Tolkki is really pissing me off with this new band of his. Was he not happy sucking giant balls with Stratovarius? No, he had to go and ruin other people’s lives with Revolution Renaissance. Now, that “New Era” crap was bad enough, but at least it had Kiske and some other good singers on it. While “Age of Aquarius” actually has some catchy choruses and vocals lines, it’s an even more annoying album, so melodic it makes my teeth ache.
Newcomer Gus Monsanto does what he can with the vocals, and I would even highlight him as one of the better aspects of the band. I like his vocal lines and his technique, he’s a very solid singer. But everything is so damn repetitive and simple. And no, being simple is not good here, it reeks of simple-mindedness, of frugality, of things that should be dead but aren’t.
See, Tolkki apparently keeps getting crazier, it’s the only explanation I can find. I do not feel any interest in making a good heavy metal album at all while listening to this record. I just get a Scientologist/New Age vibe, I keep feeling I just took LSD straight from Timothy Leary’s rotting balls. It’s pretentious enough to try and be epic, but it fails miserably, with Timo falling flatly on his fat ass.
I swear to fucking God, listen to this album from first track to last, I’ll bet you one of my kidneys you won’t be able to tell the difference between the songs by the time you’re done.
While Mike Khalilov and Bruno Agra do very good jobs on the keyboards and drums respectively, even Tolkki’s guitar playing sounds dated, stale and obnoxious by now. Where has the inspiration fucking gone, man? Did you waste it all on that shitty rock opera of yours (which was shitty!), or did all that vodka from your reckless past ruin your brain cells?
I could go on, but I think it’s pointless to beat a dead horse. Or beat a fat, aging, failed Malmsteen wannabe, for that matter.
This is not good, you should not listen to this, unless you’re having sex and you don’t want to come too soon and desperately need something to gross you out and thinking about baseball isn’t working. I’m telling you, steer away!
The cover: I don’t even know what this is.
2 Brazilians cursing the day they agreed to join this band out of 10.
